The short version
- The first consultation is free, and booking it doesn’t commit you to anything.
- Reschedule or cancel at least 24 hours ahead and there’s no charge.
- You can stop a package at any time. We refund what you paid, minus the single-session rate for each session already used.
- The score increase guarantee comes with the Core and Elite Packages, and it pays out in extra sessions, not cash.
- If the student is under 18, a parent or guardian agrees to these terms for them.
01Agreeing to these terms
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and ReadySet1600 (“ReadySet1600,” “we,” “us”). They cover readyset1600.org, the member portal, and all the tutoring we provide. By using the site, booking a consultation, or enrolling in sessions, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy.
If the student is under 18, the parent or guardian who enrolls them agrees to these Terms on the student’s behalf and is responsible for payment and for the student’s account.
02Who we are
ReadySet1600 is an independent tutoring service based in New York City. Our tutors are New York City high school students who scored highly on the exams they teach. They are not state-certified teachers.
We aren’t a school, and we aren’t affiliated with or endorsed by the College Board (SAT), ACT, Inc. (ACT), the Mathematical Association of America (AMC), or the New York City Department of Education (SHSAT). Those names are trademarks of their owners.
03Our services
We offer one-on-one tutoring for the SAT, SHSAT, ACT, and AMC. All sessions are held online over Zoom. Every family starts with a free 30-minute consultation.
Current rates and packages are listed on our Pricing page. We assign tutors based on the student’s needs and our availability. If a tutor becomes unavailable, we’ll offer a replacement at the same tier or refund any sessions you’ve paid for and haven’t used.
04Booking and sessions
- Sessions are 60 minutes unless we agree otherwise.
- If a student joins late, the session still ends at its scheduled time.
- If a tutor joins late, they make up the missed time, either at the end of that session or in a later one.
05Payment
- Single sessions are paid before each session begins.
- Packages are paid in full before the package’s first session, unless we agree in writing on a different schedule.
- We don’t collect card or bank details through this website. We’ll confirm how to pay when you book.
- Once you’ve paid for a package, its price is locked. Price changes apply only to future purchases.
- Discounts and referral rewards can’t be combined unless we say so in writing.
06Cancellations, rescheduling, and refunds
- You can reschedule or cancel a session at no charge with at least 24 hours’ notice. Message your tutor or email us.
- With less than 24 hours’ notice, or if the student doesn’t show up, the session counts as used. We may waive this for a genuine emergency or illness.
- If we cancel a session, you choose whether to reschedule it or get a refund for it.
- You can stop a package at any time. We refund what you paid, minus the regular single-session rate for each session already used. At today’s rates, stopping the Core Package ($250) after 3 sessions returns $250 − (3 × $35) = $145.
- Refunds are sent through the payment method you used, within 14 days.
07Score increase guarantee
The Core Package and Elite Package include a score increase guarantee. Single sessions don’t.
- At the start of the package, we agree with you on a target improvement based on the student’s diagnostic test, and confirm it in writing. An email counts.
- The student needs to attend every scheduled session in the package, complete the assigned homework, and take the practice tests we assign.
- Progress is measured by an official score, or by a full-length official practice test taken under timed conditions after the package ends.
- If the student meets those conditions and doesn’t reach the agreed target, we keep tutoring at no extra cost until they do.
The guarantee is a promise of additional sessions, not a cash refund. It doesn’t cover admission to any school or program. SHSAT admission in particular depends on each year’s cutoff scores, which nobody controls.
08Referral program
- Every enrolled student gets a personal referral code.
- When a new student uses your code to book a session, you each get 50% off a session.
- When a new student uses your code to buy a package, they get $25 off it and you get a $50 credit.
- Rewards apply once the new student has paid for their first session or package. They have no cash value, can’t be transferred, and you can’t refer yourself.
- We may change or end the program, but we’ll honor rewards you’ve already earned.
09Member portal
- Portal accounts are for enrolled students and our tutors. A student’s email has to be added by us before they can sign up.
- Keep your password private. You’re responsible for activity on your account, so tell us right away if you think someone else has used it.
- Use portal messaging for tutoring-related conversations only.
- A parent or guardian can ask to see their child’s portal messages at any time.
- We may suspend an account that’s being misused.
10Conduct and safety
- Everyone in a session, including tutors, students, and family members, is expected to be respectful.
- Parents and guardians are welcome to sit in on any session.
- Don’t share Zoom links or session recordings with anyone outside the session.
- We can end a session, or stop working with a family, if conduct makes tutoring unsafe or unworkable. If we do, we’ll refund any sessions you’ve paid for and haven’t used.
11Academic integrity
Tutoring is for learning. Our tutors won’t complete graded schoolwork for a student, take any part of a test for them, or help them break the rules of any exam, and we’ll decline requests that cross that line.
12Materials and content
- Practice materials, study plans, and other content we create are for the enrolled student’s personal use. Please don’t copy, sell, or post them publicly.
- Official practice tests belong to their publishers and are used under those publishers’ terms.
- The student’s own work belongs to the student.
- This website’s text, logos, and design belong to ReadySet1600.
13Results and disclaimers
The score improvements we publish, such as average gains, describe past students. They aren’t a promise of any particular result, because every student starts in a different place. Apart from the score increase guarantee above, we don’t guarantee any score, admission decision, or other outcome.
We provide the site and our services as they are. We work to keep them accurate and available, but we can’t promise they’ll always be error-free or uninterrupted.
14Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, ReadySet1600 and its tutors aren’t liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, such as missed opportunities or admission outcomes. Our total liability for any claim related to our services is limited to what you paid us in the 6 months before the claim arose. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that New York law doesn’t allow to be limited.
15Changes to these terms
When we update these Terms, we’ll change the effective date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we’ll email enrolled families before it takes effect. Packages you’ve already paid for stay under the Terms that applied when you bought them.
16Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York. If something goes wrong, please email us first. Most problems can be solved in a conversation, and we’ll respond within 14 days. If we can’t resolve it together, disputes go to the state or federal courts in New York County, New York, though either side may bring an eligible claim in small claims court.
